What is Spinning?

Spinning is indoor group cycling on a stationary bike.  Each session is led by a trainer and the bike's resistance is used to simulate hills and slopes while speed training intervals keep the session engaging.  Pumping music and the group atmosphere makes the ride fun and more productive than cycling on your own in the gym.

How many calories can I burn in an indoor cycling class?

Indoor cycling is great for burning calories and building muscular endurance.  Unlike running, indoor cycling is not high impact.  There is no undue pressure on your joints.  The amount of calories you burn depends on a couple of influences, such as your weight and the intensity at which you ride.  On average, cyclist can burn between 500 and 800 calories in one class.

What muscles am I using?

Indoor cycling classes really work your legs, glutes and core.  In addition to being a lower body workout, it is a great cardiovascular exercise.  You are using your core abdominal muscles as well as your lower back.  These muscles stretch to enable you to keep your balance and your posture as you move through the route and constantly change pace under the directions of the instructor.  The real power is in the conditioning of your hamstrings and quadriceps.  You will feel the rewarding deep thigh burn as you pedal.

How often do I need to take classes to see results?

This varies from rider to rider - especially if you are using cycling to supplement workout routine.  Generally, we recommend you take 3 classes per week to maximize your results, and we also highly recommend balancing any and all workouts with lots of stretching.

Can I ride if I am pregnant?

Yes.  However, you should consult a medical professional and sign a medical waiver before riding.  Also, you must inform the class instructor that you are pregnant or recently gave birth.  The instructor can modify the intensity of your ride.

Does the studio offer childcare?

Yes.  Just because your kids come first doesn't mean your fitness has to take a back seat.  When you need to focus at the gym, let us focus on your kids.  For a small fee, your child can enjoy our fun-filled supervised play area for up to 2 hours per day.

When should I arrive to the studio?

You should arrive at least 5 minutes prior to class, as this ensures that classes start at their scheduled time.  You must also consider locker use, child care check-in and bike set up when determining your arrival time.  If you are new to Fuel or need extra help getting started, please allow yourself at least 10 minutes prior to the class.  If you are late, call the studio to hold your bike.  Your bike will be held up to 5 minutes after the class begins to prevent disruption for other riders.  After 5 minutes, your bike will be given to a wait-list rider or a walk-in rider.

How far in advance do I have to cancel a ride in order to avoid a penalty?

You must cancel a ride 24 hours before your scheduled class in order to avoid losing that class.  Failure to cancel 24 hours before will cause you to forfeit your class.  We do not offer refunds for missed classes.

Is the studio available to rent for private rides, parties and events?

Absolutely!  Please contact us at the studio anytime to help you plan your next event.
